舒瓦尔中心
Dedicated to continuing the social mission of King's College, the 舒瓦尔中心 for Community Engagement and Learning facilitates teaching, 研究, and volunteer opportunities that advance both the needs of the community and the educational mission of the college.
The College currently offers more than 45 service learning classes that integrate academic learning with hands-on community service. 肖瓦尔中心 oversees not only this service learning programming but also volunteer opportunities, community-based work study, SERVE计划, and on-campus food pantries and clothes closets.
The Center was created in 2005 through a major gift from Susan and Judd Shoval, co-founders of GUARD Financial Group.
Enhancing Your Education
Service and community engagement is deeply engrained at King's College, so much that the College recognizes student service on your academic transcript. All students will begin with three (3) automatic hours for their Holy Cross Experience community work.
If you work 200 or 400 total service hours (or more) while you are at King's, 潜在的雇主, 研究生院, and internship coordinators will all able to see official recognition of your work, and you can note this achievement on resumés.
记录识别
In order to get this honor, you must tell us about the service you do! 使用我们的 online 记录识别 Form and answer a few short questions about your service. 只要有可能, please notify the 舒瓦尔中心 within 30 days of the completion of any service work.
All submissions are subject to approval by the 舒瓦尔中心 before being included in your total hour count. Please note that we can only give this distinction to students when they graduate; we cannot officially record or transfer service hours for non-graduates.
Eligible service that can be included on your transcript includes:
- Volunteer projects with community organizations
- Volunteer work with King's clubs and departments
- Work for organized fundraisers
- Service-learning classes and other course-based service
- Community-based work-study
- Internships with service agencies and organizations
- SERVE trips with King's College
Individual volunteer work for family or friends or paid work for most for-profit organizations are not eligible for credit. Please talk to the 舒瓦尔中心 staff if you have any questions before doing community service work.
